Tennis Channel just wrapped up their coverage of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Top Seed Open, which took place in Lexington, Kentucky from August 9th to 16th. Tennis Channel has been busy producing a number of events over the past several months, as tennis was one of the first sports to resume tournament competition since the outbreak of COVID-19.
A total of six cameras for the event, two of which were provided by Ross Production Services to assist with the production. To ensure proper COVID safety precautions, Tennis Channel utilized a smaller crew than they typically would. Whereas a typical production uses between 50-60 people, the crew for this event consisted of just 22.
One way that Tennis Channel was able to downsize their on-site presence was by relying heavily upon their Los Angeles-based production facility. This was done by transmitting the tournament feed back to the facility, and then having the production team add features like graphics and commentary to the feed.
