SPG9000

SPG9000 – Master Reference and Test Signal Generator

Master Reference and Test Signal Generator

The SPG9000 is a reliable, fully featured reference and test signal generator. It’s the industry standard for supplying the reference timing and test signals needed in today’s complex facilities, whether they are anchored by IP, SDI, or a hybrid of formats. With comprehensive PTP configuration possibilities, multi-GNSS support, and a host of software-defined functionality options that can evolve with your needs and technology roadmap, the SPG9000 is the ideal choice for the heart of your facility’s infrastructure.

SPG9000
Comprehensive PTP Capabilities

The SPG9000 can serve as a PTP grandmaster, utilizing a GNSS signal as the time source. With two independent PTP engines and ports, it can serve dual domains (ST 2059 and AES 67 for example) or redundant networks. The SPG9000 supports leader, follower or can adapt to network conditions as an “Ordinary Clock”.  For flexible connectivity options, each PTP port may be furnished with 10GbE or 1GbE SFP+ modules. The SPG9000 supports the three profile types required for media networks: SMPTE ST 2059-2, AES67 Media Profile, and IEEE 1588 Default. Both multicast and unicast communication models are supported, including mixed multicast/unicast mode.

Timing Accuracy for SDI and Audio

The SPG9000 is a comprehensive sync pulse generator, delivering precise reference signals for SDI-based workflows. Lock to GNSS or genlock to another SPG.  With six analog outputs for NTSC/PAL black burst, HD tri-level sync, 10 MHz CW or 1 pps signals, each with independent timing offsets, the SPG9000 provides all the timing sources needed for your SDI infrastructure. Distribute timecode via four LTC outputs and from VITC on any NTSC/PAL black outputs. For audio synchronization, the SPG9000 provides Word Clock and DARS outputs.

Hybrid Infrastructure: Seamlessly Bridge SDI and IP Workflows

The SPG9000 is ideal for hybrid SDI and IP environments, establishing a unified time source for IP-based devices as a PTP grandmaster, while simultaneously generating analog reference outputs for other equipment.  Downstream SPG9000s located at the network edges can operate as PTP followers, generating analog sync and time code signals for SDI-based islands.

Feature-Rich & Future-Ready: Test Signals and Other Software-Defined Features

The basic SPG9000 is a full-featured sync-pulse generator with NTP client/server and reference inputs that can lock to many different types of analog synchronization signals including NTSC and PAL black burst and HD tri-level sync signals.  Software licenses can be specified at the time of order or easily installed in the field as facility needs change, for example to add PTP and/or multi-GNSS support.  Please refer to “ORDERING INFORMATION” for a full list of factory and field-installable licenses and accessories. Full-featured test signal generation is also licensable, featuring multiple video, audio tone and ancillary data generators.  Four multi-rate outputs generate SDI signals from SD to 12G with HDR, each independently configurable.  The SPG9000 can also function as an NMOS-controlled media sender, providing test signals for IP networks over its two 25Gb/s ports operating independently or as redundant links per ST 2022-7.

24/7 Reliability and Control

As the heart of a facility’s infrastructure, the SPG9000 features mission-critical reliability.  In the event of loss of input genlock or GNSS signal, the SPG9000 maintains time and phase using its precision internal oscillator.  Upon restoration of the input reference, any phase difference is adjusted slowly to ensure no “synchronization shock” to downstream devices.  An innovative main/standby redundant power setup ensures maximum lifetime availability from the standby, if the main power supply fails.  Both power supplies are modular and easily swappable. When reliability is critical and you need a backup master reference, the ECO8000 auto changeover unit complements the SPG9000. It is user configurable to monitor and changeover analog video, SDI video, timecode and AES/EBU digital audio signals. Avoid downtime by utilizing the SPG9000’s dual PTP engines and ports to feed redundant networks. In addition to the front panel display and keypad for local operation, the SPG9000 has a full-featured easy-to-use web-based interface for remote operation.  A complete HTTP-based Application Programming Interface (API) is available for client-side software to query status and configure settings.  An onboard agent supports SNMP-based M&C systems, while syslog is available for sending log messages to a remote server.
