SFC 6901 Fiber Board

The SFC-6901 provides cost-effective fiber transport for SDI up to 12G as well as ASI.  In a single, highly flexible and configurable card, it provides the complete functionality needed to set up fiber links satisfying the needs of many scenarios.

The benefits of fiber optics for video transport include longer attainable distances, smaller/lighter cabling, reduced cable tray loads and electrical isolation.

One card, multiple applications
Get fiber connectivity for any scenario with the SFC-6901.  Directionality for fiber transmission or reception is determined by the installed SFPs, with two slots that can be provisioned for transmit, receive, or optical regeneration. Combine transmit, receive, or bi-directional SFPs on the same card to create flexible configurations tailored to your needs. Choose from a wide range of SFP options, including 1310nm for short-haul and CWDM for high-capacity multiplexing. Standard and high-sensitivity receivers address both short and extended link budget requirements. The onboard crosspoint seamlessly connects HDBNC and optical ports, enabling flexible port configurations such as inputs, outputs, loop-outs, or distribution.

Efficient use of fiber and added reliability
Maximize fiber efficiency with advanced multiplexing capabilities. The SFC-6901 supports 16 CWDM wavelengths and features an onboard gearbox to combine up to four synchronous HD/3G signals over a single fiber or wavelength, conserving strands in fiber-limited environments and cutting costs for leased fibers. Ensure critical signal continuity with optical failover on receiver ports and dual-path redundancy on transmit ports. Built on the robust openGear platform, the SFC-6901 offers redundant power supplies, hot-swappable cards, and a 5-year warranty. With Dashboard software, centralized configuration, monitoring, and alarms for signal presence and optical power levels are simple and intuitive.

Future-proof features and 12G support
The SFC-6901 is designed to adapt to evolving requirements. Its swappable SFPs allow adjustments for new fiber availability and link budget challenges. With support for 12G SDI and an internal gearbox, it’s ready for UHD workflows, whether single-link or quad-link. Each SFC-6901 supports four 12G fiber conversion paths, enabling transport of quad-link 8K SDI signals. When combined with CWDM, up to four such signals can share a single fiber, ensuring the SFC-6901 remains at the forefront of UHD and 8K transitions.

  • Industry-standard E/O/E conversion (outside gearbox mode) ensures interoperability with Ultrix ULTRIX-MOD-SFP modules, Gearlite fiber converters, and other SMPTE 297M-compliant SDI optical endpoints, enabling scalable core-to-edge solutions.
  • Configurable any-to-any port-mapping between the four HDBNC connectors and the optical ports, including:
    • One-to-one optical to/from electrical
    • Electrical or optical distribution
    • Electrical or optical loop-outs
  • Onboard gearbox with multiple uses:
    • Quad 2SI 3G <-> 12G conversion and fiber transport for UHD signals
    • Fiber savings: Up to four synchronous HD/3G SDI signals of the same framerate and standard can be combined for transport as a 12G single link
    • When combined with CWDM, up to 64 HD/3G signals can be conveyed over a single singlemode fiber
    • In gearbox mode, signal transport over fiber is uninterrupted by loss of any electrical input feed
  • Pairs of inputs may be configured for failover redundancy, allowing pairs of optical inputs, pairs of copper inputs or even optical and copper inputs as backups for each other
  • Pair with the companion SHC-8932-F to convert SDI to HDMI to feed monitors, display processors, etc.

With the ability to select from various SFP transmitter and receiver options, as well as configure the mapping of inputs and outputs using the internal crosspoint, the SHC-6901 can be flexibly configured to suit the needs of many applications.

Point-to-Point Unidirectional

The SHC-6901 can be configured for simple, uni-directional signal transport for signals from SD to 12G over multiple fibers with four channels on each card.

Point-to-Point Bidirectional

A single card may be configured to support bi-directional fiber links over multiple fibers.

Point-to-MultiPoint with Electrical Distribution

Flexible port mapping facilitates multiple electrical and/or optical outputs. In this case, a single 12G SDI source is locally distributed on two loop-outs, and optically distributed to two destination over two fibers. Three electrical outputs are configured at each destination.

Point-to-Point Over Single Fiber using Gearbox

The onboard gearbox may be used to combine up to four synchronous HD signals of the same standard and frame rate over a single, fiber-conserving 12G link.

Point-to-Point Using Gearbox with Optical FailoverPoint-to-Point-Gearbox-and-Failover

The transmitter may be configured to output two copies of the same optical signal to accommodate dual/diverse fibre paths. The receive side is configured to treat the two inputs as main and backup for optical failover. The example combines use of the gearbox, but individual signals per fibre may also be configured.

Point-to-Point Over Single Fiber with SDI to HDMI Conversion

The SFC-6901 may be paired with the SHC-8932-F to reach destinations such as monitors or display processors requiring HDMI.

Point-to-Point Bi-Directional with CWDM

Utilizing CWDM SFPs, mix and demux, up to 16 12G signals may be conveyed over a single fibre.

Point-to-Point Bi-Directional using Gearbox and CWDM

Point-to-Point-Gearbox-and-CWDM

The onboard gearbox may be used to combine up to four synchronous HD signals of the same standard and frame rate to a single 12G optical signal. Combining this with CWDM SFPs, mux and demux, up to 64 HD signals may be conveyed over a single fiber.

Point-to-Point Bi-Directional using CWDM with Ultrix

The SFC-6901 and Ultrix can interoperate in fiber conversion applications, either using CWDM as shown or individual fiber links.
